Day 2 of the White Rose and part of the Yorkshire and Humberside Orienteering Championships
LIMIT 400 entries
Location: - Skipwith Common
Fixture Date: - 28/08/2021
Location
Skipwith Common is one of the last remaining areas of lowland heath in the north of the England, managed by Escrick Park Estates and administered by Natural England. The site is roughly 50% lowland heath and 50% woodland.
Parking
The car park will be signed from the A19 along King Rudding Lane. Please approach from the A19. Nearest Post Code is YO19 6QL. OS Grid Ref is SE 643 374. Park as instructed by the officials. We are keeping cars at a social distance. Car Parking fee included in the entry fee.
Terrain
This is classed as an ancient landscape with 270 hectares of open heath, ponds, reed-bed, woodland, and scrub. It is reasonably flat and in some areas a bit vague, requiring good navigation skills. The WW2 airfield ruins are still apparent today. The planner (SF) tells me that the area is very dry now, but he has left the marshes on the map as they are tussocky and slow to run through.
