There will be prizes for the winners of each age class for the YHOA Middle Distance Championship 2024. Prize giving will be at about 2pm.
Used for the middle distance for the JK 2016, some of the best orienteering the EBOR area has to offer.
Event will be signposted on the south side of the A170, about 2.5 miles East of Sutton Bank. Please take care entering and exiting as the A170 is a fast road. We ask that you do your best to approach from the east (making a left hand turn into forest track). Nearest Post Code YO7 2HD. WhatThreeWords: vowing.delighted.spindles.
If you are approaching from the west, then there is a turn round option about half a mile further on at the Wass/Ampleforth turn. We strongly advise you use this to then approach the event from the East.
DOGS. Well behaved dogs are allowed in the assembly area and on courses White to short green. However please note that there are deer regularly in the woods. Dogs shouldn’t interfere with other competitor’s runs.
Along well surfaced forest roads, though steep downhill shortly after entry, please take care and drive slowly. Entry from A170 only.
There is a 5 min drive along good forest roads to the exit to Wass Bank Road (from here left turn to the A170 or right to Wass).
Steep forest with some excellent runnable and interesting areas to the east and west, some great technical steep and rocky slopes to the east.
Areas of dense undergrowth are generally well mapped and should be considered impenetrable. These areas have been avoided by the planner.
Black, brown, and blue courses cross the minor road up from Wass – there is no marshal, please cross sensibly. On the second road crossing, there s an immediate stream and stream bank to navigate, again, please do this carefully and sensibly.

It’s a 5-10 min walk to the start (downhill), and back from the finish (uphill) along a steep rocky track.

Although a thorough risk assessment has been conducted by the organiser, orienteering is an adventure sport and you are taking part at your own risk.
