EBOR welcomes everyone to enjoy a challenging event in a complex area of flat, runnable woodland between York and Selby.

The event hosts the Yvette Baker Trophy and Shield Inter Club competitions – this is an event not to be missed!

Juniors will need to run their correct course to count towards the YBT scoring, your club captain should be able to help with this. The rules are here for those wishing to check https://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/yvettebaker_rules

Weather:
The current forecast is Sunny with light winds! perfect for Orienteering, we don’t anticipate any kit requirements other than full body cover, whistles are advised, especially if you are new to orienteering
Start and finish located approx. 100m from registration and toilets

Dogs:
It’s a popular dog walking area hence dogs are welcome, they should be on a lead in registration, parking and assembly areas.
Full leg cover is recommended. Although ticks are less common at this time of the year, please check yourself after your run. A tick remover is available in the first aid kit if required.

First aid kits will be stationed at enquiries and the start and finish. A defibrillator will be located at enquiries. Andy McRoyall will be the main first aider, supported by others

Most importantly, make sure you have a great time with us!, please report any issues (good and bad) to the organiser on the day (I’ll be in and around registration), looking forward to a great event.

Entries close at midnight Saturday 2 March. Late entries will be accepted after that subject to map availability only – please sign up via Race Sign Up as usual.

We will be parking on the forest road, marshals will direct you, we will be operating a one way systems, hence don’t worry about turning round! Vehicles larger than a VW camper van should use one of the car parks off Scalm road.

Terrain

Bishop Wood is dead flat terrain with a mixture of woodland density and undergrowth and the courses have been designed to make the best of it. The main features comprise tracks/paths and drainage ditches. There are many earth bridges over the ditches, which are quite subtle on the ground.

Much thought has been given to the junior courses to ensure they comply with the required technical difficulties.

Given the wet winter we’ve had, some of the ditches contain deep water and there are localised areas of flooding. The courses have been designed to miss these, but water remains a hazard in the wood. Where paths on the white courses cross, or run near to, water then then the hazards will be taped off. This applies to much of the yellow course too. Paths in the east of the wood are very muddy and are expected to remain so, despite the dry week
beforehand. One leg of the white course is taped where the path is less obvious than ideal. This will comprise lengths of red/white tape attached to branches at intervals such that the next one is always in sight.

The brambles are not as flat as we hoped and the map suggests; any areas shown with a bramble screen should be taken as approximate and not used for accurate navigation – they are however sufficient to make strategic decisions. Generally, the going will be found somewhat harder than the map shading suggests.

EOD allowed (subject to map availability). Please note, due to the YBT starting rules, there may be a wait for the start. As usual, it is advised to pre-enter where possible to guarantee a run. Entries close at midnight Sunday 2 March. Late entries will be accepted after that subject to map availability only - please sign up via Race Sign Up as usual. Adults are welcome to run any course.

10:30-12:30 (No pre issued start times, 1 min start intervals)
There will be an extra row in the start box. No one from the same team can then enter the lanes if one of their team doing the same course is already in them. This will keep them 4 mins apart.
Yellow can be run in pairs.

Although a thorough risk assessment has been conducted by the organiser, orienteering is an adventure sport and you are taking part at your own risk.
