This is a charity fun event on the river for paddlers of all ages & abilities organized by Humbledon Outdoor Activities Association. All entry fees will be used to support two outdoor activity camps for people with disabilities organized each year by a team of local volunteers.
With thanks to the support of Bishopthorpe Parish Council and site owner Phil Cook.
Take part in a treasure hunt along the beautiful River Ouse in any canoe or paddle board
Great fun for children and families in canadians & doubles as well as single paddlers.
All paddlers will get a map of the river showing locations of 25 coloured flags.
The paddling challenge: how many will you find in 60 minutes?
Updated information for participants
1) Water conditions have been good for many weeks but can change quickly. If in doubt you can telephone me on the Saturday morning.
2) On arrival unload all boats on the grass at the top of the slipway quickly. This is parking for a busy restaurant and we don’t want to cause disruption. Unload quickly and then drive on 200 metres and turn right into our Canu-O car park (just beyond the caravan site). Lots of room here for cars, minibuses and trailers. Park up all vehicles and trailers before registering at reception. Do not leave vehicles in public car park. It causes annoyance against Canu-O.
3) At registration: check & complete entry, collect bib, tally and dibber (if hired), Clear personal dibbers. Hired dibbers will already be cleared and ready for use.
4) Everyone should be able to start when they are ready between 11am -1.00pm.
5) Collect your maps when equipped for the water and wearing buoyancy aids. You are allowed 3 mins to look at the map before starting.
6) Locations of 24 controls (yellow flags) and Start and Finish are shown on the map.
7) Several locations are described as Thickets or Paved Areas. Thicket = flag hidden in overhanging trees & may not be visible until very close. Paved Area = the flag is hung on a boat mooring.
8) START by “dibbing” the start box 50 metres upstream. Your 60mins starts then.
9) First find the flag circled on your tally. This will be different for everyone.
10) Punch the correct box on your tally or write in the red code number (not both). Find & record the remainder of flags in any order. You will score 10 points for each flag correctly recorded.
11) FINISH by “dibbing” the finish box on the water. This will record your total time and is in a different location to the start.
12) Finish within 60 mins otherwise lose 5 points for each minute late.
13) Return to slipway & DOWNLOAD your time at registration.
14) Return your bib, tally and all hired dibbers here (lost dibbers cost £30).
15) If you did not manage to complete the full course you are allowed to dib the finish and then find the remainder as a warm down exercise but everyone please be back on dry land in good time for the presentations.
16) Presentations at 2.15pm. Annual trophies:1st & 2nd boats & 1st team. Declare your team at reception when collecting equipment, (4 boats to count). The presentations will be made by Kerry Cook the new site owner who has been very helpful to us in organising the event. If you get chance to speak to her please pass on our thanks for their support.
17) Useful equipment but bring your own: watch, pencil, tape or map holder.
18) Results will be sent out by Email and posted on Ebor & HOAA websites
